Matt Pond PA

About a year ago I was reading Rolling Stone magazine and an article about an up and coming band from Philadelphia, PA caught my eye. The band was Matt Pond PA and the album Emblems was given 3.5 stars. Rolling Stone described the music as "intimate" and "beautiful. Since I'm also from the Philly area, I decided to listen to the album on iTunes and I immediately became a fan of the unheard band.
The chamber pop quintet is led by singer/songwriter Pond, who formed the group upon relocating from New England to Philadelphia. The group also includes guitarist/bassist Josh Kramer, cellist Jim Hostetter, violinist Rosie McNamar-Jones and drummer Sean Bryne. The group made its debut in 1998 with Deer Apartments, that same year winning top honors in the Unheard? unsigned bands competition sponsored by online retailer CDnow. The group followed up its debut with the album Measure in 2000 and later added Mike Kennedy (drums), Matt Raisch (bass), Jim Kehoe (guitar) and Eve Miller (cello) to the roster. Green Fury was released in spring 2002 followed by The Nature of Maps several months later. Their latest Emblems was released in May 2005.
Lately the band has been receiving considerable recognition for their style and sound of music. Pond recently made a music video that is being featured on MTV2. The group relies heavily on touring in order to generate a buzz and create a considerable fan base. My favorite songs on Emblems include "Summer (butcher two)" and "Bring on the Ending."

A fantastic blog. Keep it up. Here's the resolve a lot of people are searching for; how to buy & sell everything, like music on interest free credit; pay whenever you want.
Your blog immediately caught my eye on the class list and I'm very interested to see all the things you will be posting this semester. I am a huge music fan and I'm always looking for new bands to check out (though I tend to favor British rock more than other types of music).
I checked out the Matt Pond PA link in your blog, and played "Lily One" and "Closer". I thought they were pretty good. They remind me a bit of The Stands. I read on the site that they do a cover of "Champagne Supernova" and I'm sorry there's no mp3 for that, as Oasis is my favorite band and I'd love to hear a new take on that song. I will definitely keep an eye out for them!
Good call on Matt Pond PA, they are definetly a really good band. A friend of mine turned me on to them last year and I really liked them. They were supposed to come to Delaware last Spring but pulled out last minute. I was really bummed I couldn't see them. I am glad to see that you are turning people onto good un-known music, not just obscure bands that no one has heard of that stink. I am a big fan of their album, Nature of Maps. My favorite song by Matt Pond PA is "Summer is Coming" because I really like the use of the cello in the song. I know they have cello parts in most of the songs but on this one the cello is really prominent. Once again, good music pick.
Honestly, I have no idea who Matt Pond PA is, sorry. However, I do know who Amy is and she is one of my great friends at the University of Delaware. Since she highly recommends Matt Pond PA, I will download some of their songs to get a feel for their music.
Amy and I have had many marketing classes together and study a lot. We first meet my sophomore year in Statistics. I probably began talking to her first since I love to talk. We studied a lot together for statistics and soon became friends outside the classroom. She actually is dating the best friend of an old friend of mine. Currently, we have three classes together this semester: marketing research, internet marketing, and strategic management. Since she is a fifth year senior, she will be graduating in January. I will be missing an awesome study buddy my last semester at UD.
I had never heard of Matt Pond PA before this blog. I just downloaded "New Hampshire" and "Closer." The songs are pretty mellow and chill which I like most of the time. Like Death Cab for Cutie, I think they are a good band to do homework to or just drive around to. I look forward to downloading some more of their songs to see what some of their other music sounds like. If you are interested in some new music out there, my blog is called "The Music Scene." It's about the music I like and some of the new bands that I have recently been listening to it. Check it out if your interested. Cya.
